The Orange County Board of Education and the Orange County Department of Education are dedicated to ensuring that Orange County students graduate from high school college and career ready.

Included in the educational options for Orange County's children and parents are high quality charter schools that emphasize rigorous academic standards, innovative programs and responsible business practices.

A charter school is a public school that provides instruction to any of grades TK-12, and is usually created or organized by a group of teachers, parents and community leaders. Typically authorized by an existing local public school board, specific goals and operating procedures for the school are detailed in the charter petition.

Charter status frees the school from many of the state statutes and regulations that apply to school districts. The law requires that a charter school be nonsectarian in its programs, admission policies, employment practices, and all other operations, and prohibits the conversion of a private school to a charter school.
