" Left untreated, mental health disorders in children and adolescents lead to higher rates of suicide, violence, school dropout, family dysfunction, juvenile incarcerations, alcohol and other drug use, and unintentional injuries. Schools play a vital role in creating safe, nurturing school environments and providing care to students with emotional or behavioral problems. "

Welcome

The Orange County Department of Education’s School Based Mental Health Services provide prevention and early intervention for children and youth. Programs include Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and four Violence Prevention Education (VPE) programs.

Positive Behavioral Intervention and Supports (PBIS) and Violence Prevention Education (VPE) Services provide a broad range of personalized social development services that are culturally and linguistically appropriate and consistent with the Mental Health Services Act, Prevention and Early Intervention model. PBIS and Four program sub-components comprise the multi-faceted violence prevention school-based program. Each component supports the Prevention and Early Intervention (PEI) plan to reduce the risk of school failure. The Prevention and Early Intervention School-based Mental Health Services located at the Orange County Department of Education is funded in part by the Health Care Agency, Behavioral Health Services, Prevention & Intervention Division.
