Biographical Information
Gomez, a Tustin resident since 1988, is a former member of the Tustin City Council and Mayor Pro Tem, having been elected in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. Along with her council duties, she has held leadership positions with the Orange County Senior Citizens Advisory Council, the Santa Ana River Flood Protection Agency, the Orange County Library Advisory Board and the Tustin Area Senior Center Fund. Additionally, she was an appointed commissioner for the Orange County Waste Management Commission in 2012-13 and serves as an alternate for the Southern California Association of Governments, the Newport Bay Watershed Executive Committee and the Water Advisory Committee of Orange County.
Gomez is currently the Dean for the Health Science Division Cypress College, having previously served as the college's Program Director for the Health Information Technology Program and Professional Development Coordinator. Over the course of her career, she has held various management and consulting positions in hospitals, ambulatory clinics and a national home health agency. She is a past recipient of the William J. Olsten Award for Excellence in Records Management and the Core Values Winner for "Commitment to our Shareholders" from Tokos Medical Corporation.
Gomez has also been actively involved in a number of community and professional organizations. A two-time past president of the Greater Orange County Health Information Association, she has served as president of the Tustin Public Schools Foundation, the Tustin South Bobby Sox, the Tustin High School Academic Boosters, the Tustin Unified School District Coordinating Council, the Thorman Elementary School PTO and the Currie Middle School PTA. She has also been on the Board of Directors for Tustin Girls Softball, Nelson PTA, Tustin Meadows Tiny Tots and the Orange County Women's Soccer League, and she has been a longtime youth coach with Tustin South Bobby Sox, Tustin Girls Softball, AYSO and National Junior Basketball.
Along with a bachelor's degree from the UCLA School of Public Health, Gomez has a master's degree in healthcare administration from California State University, Long Beach, as well as a master's degree in sports management from the University of San Francisco.
She and her husband, John McKeon, have three children who each attended schools in Orange County. Their two sons are graduates of California State University, Fullerton and Sonoma State University, and their daughter completed her undergraduate and law degree at Stanford University.
