Biographical Information

Tim Shaw was first elected to the La Habra City Council in 2008, and in November of 2020 was re-elected to a 4th term on the City Council. He served as Mayor in 2012 and 2018. 
Shaw was appointed to the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) Board of Directors in January 2013 where he served as Chairman in 2019. In addition to serving as a Past Chairman of OCTA, he serves on the Executive Committee, Chairman of the Transit Committee, and the State Route 91 Advisory Committee. Director Shaw is one of two Orange County representatives serving on the Los Angeles – San Diego – San Luis Obispo Rail Corridor Agency (LOSSAN) Board of Directors. Shaw currently serves as Orange County’s representative to the Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC), which to date has invested more than $400 million in hundreds of clean transportation initiatives that reduce air pollution. Director Shaw represents OCTA on the Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) Regional Council. Shaw was La Habra’s representative on the Orange County Sanitation District’s Board of Directors from 2016 to 2020.

In 2020, the voters of North Orange County elected Shaw to serve as a Trustee on the Orange County Board of Education representing Orange County’s 4th district, which includes Anaheim, Buena Park, Fullerton, La Habra, and Placentia. He has been a strong advocate for parental rights and educational choice for the students of Orange County. He is an alumni of the American Council of Young Political Leaders (ACYPL) as part of an American delegation to Brazil in 2017.

Councilman Shaw has worked in the office of California’s Governor, an Orange County Supervisor, and a State Senator. He currently works as the Government Affairs Director for the Pacific West Association of REALTORS® and is an adjunct professor of Political Science at Rio Hondo College. Shaw’s education includes:

  • A.S. in Commercial Flight from Mt. San Antonio College
  • B.S. in Aviation Management from Southern Illinois University
  • M.A. in Legislative Affairs from George Washington University​
  • Executive Certificate in Public Leadership from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government​

As a young man, Shaw attended elementary school in the Lowell Joint School District, where his mother now serves as an elected Trustee and where his children are attending school. He achieved the rank of Eagle Scout while attending La Habra High School. He served a two-year Spanish-speaking mission for his church in Chicago, Illinois. Councilman Shaw is married to La Habra native Shannon Bryant, and they are the proud parents of sons Luke, Matthew, Wes, Jason, Wyatt, and Lincoln.
