Orange County Robotics Consortium

Distance Learning and Virtual Robotics

As Orange County School Districts shift instruction into Distance Learning models, the Orange County Robotics Consortium is here to support through highlighting resources, best practices and strategies to engage ALL learners in Robotics Programming. The resources; curricula and sites shared are device agnostic and are intended to support teachers, schools, districts and community partners as they seek to engage learners remotely in Robotics Programming.

VEXcode VR

(Click to Access)

VEXcode VR lets you code a virtual robot using a block based coding environment powered by Scratch Blocks. VEXcode VR is based on VEXcode, the same programming environment used for VEX 123, GO, IQ and V5 robots. We all know that robots make Computer Science (CS) come to life with real world applications. Now STEM learning can continue while at home for students, teachers and mentors with no access to their VEX robots.
VEX Code VR Activities.jpgVEXcode VR has an abundance of activities that accompany it. In completing these activities, users will experience creativity, programming strategies, and problem-solving skills in a fun and engaging way.

VEX Code VR Teacher Resources.jpg
The VEXcode VR Teacher Portal contains a Cumulative Pacing Guide that lists all VEXcode VR activities, the category of the activity, a description, the playground utilized with the activity, key programming concepts, and the CSTA standards associated with the activity. The Teacher's Portal also contains answers to all the activities. Finally, the Teacher's Portal contains an email home that teachers can send to parents to communicate what VEXcode VR is and what the students are learning. Access the Teacher's Portal by clicking this description, or via a button on the current VEXcode VR Activities page, which will direct users to either enter their VEX ID from their VEX account or create one.

VEX Code VR STEM Labs.jpg

VEX Robotics created STEM Labs as a supplemental educational resource.

The purpose was to support educators with free, easy to follow STEM lesson plans that align with educational standards.

Each STEM Lab contains hands-on lessons with guided explorations that encourage teamwork and collaboration.

Thank you for visiting the OCRC Webpage. The OCRC is a program of the STEM & Humanities Unit and Office of Career Education within the Educational Services Division of the Orange County Department of Education.
