OC Maker Challenge

The health and wellbeing of everyone who participates in the ocMaker Challenge is always our top priority. Given the county-wide school closings, feedback from participants, government recommendations and protective measures being taken across the county, we are honoring the decision of our participants to cancel the 2020 ocMaker Challenge. We admire the work that you and your students have accomplished this year and applaud your dedication to the ocMaker Challenge.

For those of you that wanted to postpone or hold a virtual competition, we are looking to host a virtual showcase in late May. During these unprecedented times, we understand how important it is to celebrate students and their successes. The virtual showcase is optional for any teacher who is already registered in the 2020 ocMaker Challenge. Details about the virtual showcase will be forthcoming.

Together, we are navigating through these uncharted territories. As we pivot into this virtual landscape, we know this presents an exciting opportunity to develop unique learning and authentic experiences for students. Whether you choose to participate in the virtual showcase, or not, we hope to see you next year and look forward to providing an avenue to celebrate student innovation in Orange County!

The ocMaker Challenge is an integrated STEM design project delivered in classrooms. Combining elements of STEM technologies, art, and design, the ocMaker Challenge promotes a culture of inquiry and problem solving and provides Pre-K through 12th grade students a real-world authentic experience.

Students are prompted to:
Design and build, or significantly repurpose a product that solves a problem, need or want.
