My heart goes out to the victims of the heinous acts that occurred at the Boston Marathon today. This was a cowardly act against innocent citizens and is a reminder that we must all be vigilant and pay attention to anything unusual around us.
 
As Boston public safety officials work with their state and federal partner agencies to determine what happened, we here in California are looking at all available information to identify anything that may pose a threat to our state and citizens.
 
At this point, we have no reason to believe that the events in Boston are connected to California. However, events like this often change on a minute-by-minute basis, and I have directed our State Threat Assessment Center in Sacramento to work with the five regional intelligence centers throughout the state to continue looking at any threats that may emerge.
 
If you see something, say something. Reporting suspicious activity to your local law enforcement agency may be all it takes to keep people out of harm’s way.
