Drip Drop - 5th Grade

NGSS Standards Supported: NGSS 5-ESS2-1​

​Students will conduct experiments to determine how urban surfaces can affect their local water resources. Students will examine existing water management solutions such as aquifer recharge, run-off collection, and stormwater recycling, as well as determine choices that can be made to conserve and protect local water resources.​​​


Scientists​ of the Sewers - 5th Grade

NGSS Standards Supported: 5-ESS3-1 & 3-5-ETS1-1

Fatbergs, massive clogs in the sewers, are a menace to public health, the community and the local environment. Students will investigate to discover the sources of these colossal clogs. Then using criteria and constraints, students will work together to design a solution to prevent fatbergs from clogging the sewers, all while developing an understanding of Orange County's sanitation process and how they can help safeguard community and environmental health.​


Rethink Resources - 5th Grade

NGSS Standards Supported: K-ESS3-3, 3-LS4-4, 5-ESS3-1,
MS-ESS3-3, MS-ESS3-4, HS-ESS3-4
Is all of our trash really waste? Rethink Resources uses trash to explore the connection between humans and the natural world. Through hands-on activities that focus on the five R's: Refuse, Reuse, Rot, Repurpose, and Recycle, students will develop a deeper understanding of the importance of natural resources and how we can conserve them by producing less waste.​​​



Project Zero Waste - Service Learning - 5th Grade

NGSS Standards Supported: K-ESS3-3, 3-LS4-4, 5-ESS3-1, MS-ESS3-3, MS-ESS3-4, HS-ESS3-4
Over 68 billion pounds of trash are produced in ​California each year! Students learn the ins and outs of local waste management and practice the behaviors needed to help California achieve its goal of a 75% reduction in waste by 2025. Orange County is​​ a leader in the state for waste reduction and our students are key players in OC's sustainable future. ​​​


Amazing Animals - 5th Grade

NGSS Standards Supported:  ​​​K-LS1-1, 1-LS1.A, 2-LS4.D, 3-LS4.C, 4-LS1.A, 5-LS2.A, MS-LS2.C, MS-LS4.D HS-LS-2.A, HS-LS-2.C

Students will experience a variety of live animals, many of which live in Orange County, to learn about their unique characteristics, behaviors and interactions. Each Amazing Animals program is grade-specific in order to support individual grade level learning objectives.​​​
