Summer Day Camp

for Summer Day Camp 2023!​

Inside the Outdoors, administered by the Orange County Department of Education, is excited to return with our popular Summer Day Camp at Shipley Nature Center in lovely Huntington Beach, California.

Camp Hours
: 9:00 am* to 2:00 pm**

*Drop off starts at 8:30 am for all weeks.
**Extended Camp available from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm for an additional fee of $75.

Experience unique activities that incorporate science, fun, learning, and being outdoors​.  Summer Day Camp is geared toward campers age 6 to 12 years old, with leadership and camp opportunities for campers age 13-17.  Each week of summer camp will have themed daily activities that are science/nature based that also include a daily nature journal prompt and a take-home craft.

​Description

'Element'al Summer Fun

Campers will spend the week exploring the elements of the natural world and the fundamentals of fun! Young scientists will experience and experiment with essential components of the environment like never before. Each day will be a new adventure as we sing songs, make crafts and play games to tap into the camper's natural curiosity.

​Nature Navigators

Adventure is out there and getting there is half the fun! Campers will refine their skills of navigation from mapping out Shipley Nature Center to charting the stars. This wayfinding week will be full of exploration, excitement and science skills to last all summer!​

Mysteries of Nature

Is your curious camper ready for the myths, legends and tall tales of Shipley Nature Center? In this week of bizarre science, campers will explore and discover the weird and wacky mysteries of nature. Our nature detectives will be on the lookout for animal evidence and fun as we play, laugh and experiment with the extraordinary environment.​

​Where the Wild Campers Are

Wildlife, native plants and wild campers! This week we head back to our roots of all things nature! Campers will navigate the rugged wilderness of Shipley Nature Center as they explore the trails, spy for animals, and engage in hands-on natural science in this fun filled week that will sure be wild!​

 

​Sample Schedule

9:00 am - Camp songs/skits as a whole group.

9:30am - 11:30 am - Camp activities in small groups.

11:30 am - Lunch (bring your own lunch each day) and Garbology

12:00 pm - Afternoon games and choose-your-own-adventure activities with camp staff.​
