Authorizati​on Description 

Business Industry Partnership Teacher Authorization (BIPT) 

The Business Industry Partnership Teacher Authorization (BIPTA) in California allows qualified industry professionals to transition into teaching positions in Career and Technical Education (CTE). Designed to address the growing need for skilled instructors in high-demand fields, this program enables professionals with substantial industry experience to share their expertise in educational settings, particularly in CTE courses aligned with California's 15 recognized industry sectors.


​​Requirements
Individuals must satisfy all of the following requirements:
  1. Three years of work experience directly related to each industry sector to be named on the credential. One year equals a minimum of 1000 clock hours and the experience may be full-time or part-time, paid or unpaid. See Terms and Definitions for additional information regarding the experience requirement.

  2. High school diploma requirement by one of the following methods:

    1. Possess a high school diploma

    2. Possess a diploma based on passage of the GED Test

    3. Possess the foreign equivalent of a high school diploma

  3. Obtain a Certificate of Clearance issues by the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing (CTC)

  4. Completed OCDE application

  5. Recommendation by a Commission-approved CTE program sponsor

  6. Complete the CTE Teacher Early Orientation
