​​​​​​The O​​​range County Department of Education is leading the development of three model curriculum projects centering on the Cambodian, Hmong, and Vietnamese American histories, culture, and refugee experience. Members of the community, researchers, and educators inform the development of the model curriculum. 

​​Over the course of 2022-2024, the curricula will be created as a collection of lesson plans, primary source documents, planning resources, teaching strategies, and professional development activities to assist educators. 

OCDE acknowledges the lived experiences and diverse perspectives by collaborating with external organizations and local education agencies that serve the communities of interest by hosting multiple opportunities for engagement.

During listening sessions and focus groups, participants explain what content they would like to see in model curricula. Engagement session feedback informs the choice of topics for the curriculum projects.

​​​​To develop the model curriculum, OCDE hired experts- K-12 and higher ed. educators, scholars, and others with heritage in Cambodia, Hmong, and Vietnamese communities-  in history, social science, culture, language, curriculum, and instruction.
