| In 1992, May was designated as Asian American and Native Hawaiian/Pacific Islander (AANHPI) Heritage Month in the United States. This year, OCDE will mark the occasion with a May webinar series to announce the completion of three model curriculum projects: the Cambodian American Studies Model Curriculum, Hmong History and Cultural Studies Model Curriculum, and Vietnamese American Experiences Model Curriculum. Each of these curricula will be made available in September 2024. The purpose of this free webinar series is to introduce K-12 educators to the topics, themes, and contexts of the model curricula. These webinars will feature presentations by scholarly experts on critical subjects that include ethnicity, language, war, diaspora, and community-building. The lecturers will present attendees with foundational knowledge to prepare them for implementation of the model curricula in their schools, districts, and communities. Lectures will take place from 4-5:30 pm PDT on each Thursday in May 2024.

This year, OCDE will mark the occasion with a June Refugee Studies webinar series to announce the completion of three model curriculum projects connected to refugee histories and experiences: the Cambodian American Studies Model Curriculum, Hmong History and Cultural Studies Model Curriculum, and Vietnamese American Experiences Model Curriculum. | The Orange County Department of Education is proud to introduce the Cambodian American Studies Model Curriculum (CASMC) at rollout conferences between 2024 and 2026. Available in the fall of 2024, the CASMC will assist educators in teaching about the histories, cultures, and traditions of Cambodian Americans as part of Education Finance Bill AB 167. At the roll-out conference, K-12 educators will:
Learn about the CASMC and companion resources Connect with educators, scholars, community members, and culture bearers, as well as relevant cultural practices and ways of knowing Participate in culturally immersive experiences in local communities
