ELEMENTARY STUDENT PRESENTATION
Let's Get Media Smart​

The Orange County Department of Education is offering a 45-minute Red Ribbon Week workshop for elementary students in grades 4-6. Students will learn advertising tricks, build media literacy, and use critical thinking skills to become smart consumers. The content is focused on how some products that are advertised to kids are not healthy, including alcohol and vapes. The workshop supports the California Health Education Content Standard of Analyzing Influences related to Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs and is available at no cost to public, charter, and private schools, including after school programs.​

SECONDARY STUDENT PRESENTATION
Maximizing Your Impact with Red Ribbon Week, October 23-31

Does your school have​ a leadership group or club interested in conducting Red Ribbon Week activities this October? The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) can train your middle and high school students to provide foundational knowledge to support their substance use prevention efforts. Students will learn the history of ​Red Ribbon Week, current drug trends affecting Orange County youth, effective prevention strategies, and activity ideas. Participating schools will receive a Red Ribbon Week Supply Pack including campaign decorations and promotional materials. This one-hour training (or one class period) is available to all public, private, and charter schools at no cost.​

SECONDARY STUDENT PRESENTATION
Media Literacy Student Workshop

The Orange County Department of Education is offering a Media Literacy workshop for middle and high school students. Participants will increase their understanding of alcohol, marijuana, and electronic cigarette advertising and marketing strategies. The training is great for Red Ribbon Week, and it supports the California Health Education Content Standard of Analyzing Influences related to Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drugs. Instruction time is approximately 50 minutes with optional follow-up activities to further support learning. This opportunity is available at no cost to public, charter, private schools, and after school programs.

FAMILY WORKSHOP
Prevention: It Starts With You!
This one-hour training is designed to provide an overview of current drug trends and risk and protective factors and to equip parents with knowledge, skills, a​nd strategies to identify and prevent youth drug use. The presentation is one hour in length and available in English or Spanish.​

EDUCATOR TRAINING
Fentanyl and Fake Pills: What Educators Need to Know
This 30-minute workshop is designed to provide an overview of fentanyl, counterfeit pills, and naloxone, and how school staff can engage students in prevention conversations. Available to all districts and schools in Orange County, in English, in-person or virtual with flexible scheduling. A 20-minute condensed version is also available.​
