The Orange County Department of Education (OCDE) will be partnering with student clubs and leadership groups to design and implement mental health awareness activities during the 2024-2025 school year.
OCDE will provide the following to all participating schools (at not cost)
- Mental Health 101 workshop for middle and high school student groups, or Understanding and Managing Emotions workshop for upper elementary school students (grades 4-6)
- Activity ideas and online resources
- Promotional themed items (such as vinyl stickers and stress balls)
- T-shirts for students involved in conducting the mental health promotion activities on their campus
- Technical assistance for planning and implementing the activity or event
Participation Requirements
- A minimum of ten students and one advisor must be involved in the planning and implementation of the awareness activity or event that intends to reach a wide school audience.
- Approval from school administration to conduct the activity and disseminate a student survey.
- A working partnership with a school counselor or school/district mental health specialist.
All participating schools will be asked to submit a brief report on the outcomes from their activity. Additionally, the student group and audience participating in the mental health awareness event (student population, school staff, or parents/caregivers when applicable) will be asked to complete a short survey following the activity or event.
