Language Services

As paradigms shift within education, there is a need to integrate new terminology and make it comprehensible to our parents and the community at large by utilizing a consistent vernacular across various languages.

We provide a variety of multilingual and multicultural services that focuses on providing support, coaching, and language assistance for translation and interpretation needs as it relates to cultural awareness and the latest state-adopted terminologies and glossaries in several languages. We fulfill requests for oral interpretation (e.g., Individualized Education Plans, Parent/Teacher Meetings and/or conferences, Board Meetings, etc.), and for translation of written materials.

We also offer Language Assessments of language fluency of school staff either individually or in-group. The language assessment is offered in an oral and a written modality.

OCDE has two licensed trainers of The Community Interpreter International that provide 40-hour training to bilingual staff working in education. This training aims to enhance the skills of bilingual staff and equip them with the tools, confidence, and knowledge to provide the best language services to all the students, families, and communities they serve. To learn more about scheduling training for your school staff, visit our Professional Learning tab.

Our services are open to all school districts, charter schools, and learning centers in Orange County and its surroundings.

If you would like to become an interpreter or translator for OCDE, please contact Natalia Abarca at nabarca@ocde.us or 714-966-4437.
