OCDE Regional Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program

​​​​​​​​The Orange County Department of Education provides quality education for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students grades seven through High School residing in Orange and surrounding counties. This program has been recognized as a model of regionalized programming nationwide.

The Orange County Deaf and Hard of Hearing Program is located within the Irvine Unified School District at Venado Middle School and University High School. The program serves deaf and hard of hearing students living in the 28 school districts throughout Orange County surrounding counties that are referred by their home school district. 

The program provides:

  • Curriculum aligned with the California State Standards.
  • Special Day Classes designed for Deaf and Hard of Hearing students.
  • Inclusion opportunities with general education peers.
  • Ability to participate in extracurricular activities such as sports, student government and activities.
 
The Regional Deaf program is supported by the following staff trained in Deaf Education:

  • School Counselor
  • Paraeducators
  • Sign Language Interpreters
  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Occupational Therapists
  • Adamted Physical Education Specialist
