SEL is defined as the process through which all young people and adults acquire and apply the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to:
  • Develop healthy identities
  • Manage emotions and achieve personal and collective goals
  • Feel and show empathy for others
  • Establish and maintain supportive relationships
  • Make responsible and caring decisions

Why Social-Emotional Learning (SEL)?
Social-Emotional Learning (SEL) is essential for student success, both in the classroom and beyond. Research shows that SEL improves academic outcomes, reduces disciplinary issues, and fosters a positive school climate. By implementing a systemic SEL program, your school creates a foundation for lifelong learning, emotional well-being, and student success. OCDE’s SEL trainings empowers your school to create and sustain a comprehensive SEL program that meets the Indicators of Schoolwide SEL.

OCDE's SEL workshops prepare your school or district to:
  • Improve student outcomes under Differentiated Assistance (DA)
  • Meet LCAP goals
  • Support staff in addressing the CSTP updates
  • Prepare for the SEL4CA Recognition Award
