Eligibility & Criteria

Who Can Apply

The Orange County Department of Education Impact Schools Award is open to all public and charter schools across Orange County. Schools may apply based on a specific program or initiative that demonstrates meaningful impact on students.

Applicants represent all grade spans and school contexts. Recognition is awarded to the entire school community.

What We Look For

Impact Schools demonstrate high-quality practices that meaningfully benefit students. Applications are reviewed holistically, with attention to the following areas:

Impact on Student

Clear evidence that the program or initiative is positively influencing student learning, engagement, well-being, or readiness for college, career, and life.

Equity & Access

Intentional efforts to ensure all students—particularly those with greater needs—have access to and benefit from the initiative.

Implementation Quality

Thoughtful design and strong execution of the program, including alignment to identified student needs and school context.

Sustainability

Evidence that the work can be maintained over time and is embedded within the school's practices.

Evidence of Results

Use of relevant data, examples, or artifacts that support the impact described in the application.

Additional Considerations

Important Notes

  • Awards are not based solely on standardized test scores.
  • Previously recognized schools are eligible to reapply, provided the submission reflects a distinct program or initiative that has not been previously recognized.
