Overview
As part of the selection process, schools identified for recognition participate in a validation visit. This step ensures that the program or initiative described in the application is reflected in practice and aligns with the intent of the award.
Validation visits are designed to be collaborative, respectful, and grounded in learning.
Purpose of the Visit
Validation visits are conducted to:
- Confirm the accuracy and authenticity of the application
- Observe the program or initiative in action
- Better understand the conditions that support its success
- Highlight practices that may inform and inspire other schools
What to Expect on Validation Visit
An OCDE team will coordinate with the school to schedule the visit and plan activities that are meaningful and minimally disruptive to the school day.
Each visit may include a combination of the following:
- Principal Interview
- Classroom Walkthrough
- Teacher or staff conversations
- Student focus groups or discussions
- Program or initiative deep dive
- Observation of a team meeting, PLC, or learning environment
- Campus or program tour
Activities are selected in collaboration with the school to reflect the nature of the program being highlighted.
Note: Future visits will be organized for a cross-disciplinary team to visit Impact School sites.
