The Specialized Student Programs and Operations (SSP&O) Department, under the Division of Student Services, provides support across a range of essential programs and services, including Child Welfare and Attendance, Homeless Education Services (McKinney-Vento), Foster Youth Services and Programs, Compliance and Records, Student Information Systems, and Data Analysis and Reporting.
SSP&O also supports Alternative Education programs and services throughout Orange County. This includes providing technical assistance, policy guidance, and system-level collaboration to local education agencies (LEAs) and charters serving students in nontraditional and alternative settings as well as coordinating the referral and enrollment processes for OCDE’s ACCESS programs.
Our department is committed to helping school systems build and sustain practices that promote student re-engagement, educational equity, and improved outcomes for at-promise youth, including those facing barriers related to attendance, academic progress, housing instability, or system involvement. Through collaboration with school sites, families, LEAs and charters, and community-based organizations, SSP&O supports accountability, accuracy, and equitable access. We work to ensure that all students, particularly those in alternative education pathways, receive the resources, support, and advocacy they need to thrive in school and beyond.
