Certain changes to an Orange County Board of Education (OCBE)-authorized charter school require approval by the Orange County Board of Education before they can be implemented.
The Charter Schools Unit reviews requests for material revisions, evaluates them in accordance with California Education Code and Orange County Board of Education policy, and provides findings and recommendations to support the Board's consideration of each request. Charter schools should consult with their assigned Charter Schools Unit staff member before submitting a material revision request.
Important
Charter schools must obtain Orange County Board of Education approval before implementing changes that constitute a material revision. Implementing a material revision without prior approval may constitute a violation of the charter.
When is a Material Revision Required?
A material revision may be required when a charter school proposes significant changes to its approved charter, such as:
- Adding or reducing grade levels
-
Opening, relocating, or expanding school sites
-
Revising the educational program
-
Changing governance or organizational structure
-
Modifying admissions policies or procedures
-
Other significant changes that affect the approved charter
If you are unsure whether a proposed change requires a material revision, contact the Charter Schools Unit before implementing the change.
